Deputy Editor in Chief
The deputy editor in chief provides support to the editor in chief and associate editor on editorial decision-making, and is responsible for editorial-decisions when the editor in chief or associate editor is unavailable or has declared a conflict of interest.
Jike Cui, PhD
Dr. Jike Cui is the Principal Computational Statistician at WuXi NextCODE, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. He has over fifteen years of experience in the field of bioinformatics and statistics, especially molecular evolution and high-throughput data analyses.
His current research focuses on developing and implementing computationally intensive machine learning and statistical classification algorithms and resampling methods, applying to whole exome and whole genome datasets. Previously Jike worked at Millennium The Takeda Oncology Company and Genzyme Sanofi Corporation, exploring the biology of cancer and rare disease and drug treatment effect using array, NGS, proteomics, clinical and assay data.
At Millennium, Jike played critical role in a team of three members which developed a statistical method to predict cancer cell drug response and ranked among the tops in world-wide DREAM challenge. At Genzyme, Jike led the data analysis of a high-profile, multi-year and multi-panel project involving nearly 2,000 patients.
Jike obtained his Ph.D in bioinformatics from Boston University under the supervision of Drs John Samuleson and Temple Smith, the coauthor of Smith-Waterman algorithm, and finished postdoc training as a research associate at Harvard Medical School with Dr. Dennis Wall. Jike authored and co-authored 20 peer reviewed publications, mostly in the field of molecular evolution, including three in PNAS.
Jike was an invited speaker at the International Workshop on Bioinformatics and Systems Biology in 2007 and 2008. In 2009 he was a member of the organizing committee for workshop. In addition, Jike was heavily involved in the development of the open-source transMART platform, designed the functions in the powerful R-interface and helped to develop the Program Explorer, a very useful feature not seen in similar platforms.
Responsibility for editorial decision-making in respect to all submissions to the journal has been delegated by the editor in chief to the associate editors. The editor in chief retains responsibility for editorial matters including but not limited to journal supplements, the aims and scope, the editorial board and volunteer peer reviewer pool, and for consulting on ad hoc editorial matters such as pre-submission inquiries from authors.
Ximiao He, PhD
Dr Ximiao He is a Professor at School of Basic Medicine, Tongji Medical College (TJMC), Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan in China. Prior to joining TJMC, Dr He was a Research Fellow at National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH). He earned his PhD in Genomics and Bioinformatics at Beijing Institute of Genomics (BIG), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2009, and also has a B.S. in Medical Informatics at TJMC, HUST. He completed postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Dr Charles Vinson at NCI, NIH.
Dr He’s research interests lie in genomics and bioinformatics, especially in investigation on the regulation of gene expression from a large amount of genomic, epigenomic, and transcriptomic data using bioinformatic approach; and identification of the role of gene regulation in developmental disorders and diseases. He is interested to study how alternative splicing and alternative promoter usage regulate gene expression through development, and also how DNA methylation and histone modification shapes chromatin dynamics differently under normal and disease conditions, as well as the effects of DNA methylation on evolution of Transcription Factors Binding Sites (TFBSs) and new genes. His long-term goal is to identify the correlation of the genomic and epigenomic information with development and disease (especially cancer) and to translate the findings into prognosis, diagnosis and clinical treatment. At present, Dr He has published 22 peer-reviewed papers in leading scientific journals, including Nature, PNAS, PLoS Biology, Genome Research, Genes & Development, NAR, Genome Biology and Evolution. His works have been heavily cited over 1,700 times by scientists worldwide.
Liuyang Wang, PhD
Dr Liuyang Wang is a Senior Research Associate at Duke University School of Medicine. He has a PhD in Ecology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a BS in biology science from Henan University, China. He was also a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Michigan. He has more than 10 years of experiences in evolutionary biology and bioinformatics field.
His current research focuses on using statistic and computational methods to understand the genetic basis of human disease susceptibility and coevolution of host-pathogen interactions, and to develop computational tools to address challenges arising in the analysis of “big data.” His extensive studies also involve molecular and genome evolution, biogeography, meta-GWAS analysis and inflection disease. Dr. Wang has published more than 20 peer reviewed publications, most in evolutionary and computational biology, such as molecular ecology, genome biology and molecular biology evolution.
Supplement guest editors are responsible for the editorial content of published supplements, and as editorial board members are a source of peer reviewers and may occasionally provide assistance to the editor in chief. Further information on the editorial board is available here, and information on the roles of guest editors in supplements is available here.
