Nicole Powell-Dunford is an Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (Bethesda, Maryland, USA) and the current Consultant to the U.S. Army Surgeon General for Women’s Health. She obtained her medical degree at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 2001 and is board certified in Family Medicine and Aerospace Medicine. She is a fellow of the American Association of Family Practitioners and holds a Master of Public Health from UTMB Galveston. In 2015 she was awarded the Haley writing award for medical research and was nationally recognized for oral contraceptive pill research in 2002. Her military assignments include international exchange officer, deputy commander for clinical services, brigade surgeon and director of the primary flight surgeon course.
Dr. Powell-Dunford’s interests include women’s health care in the austere setting, oral contraceptive pills, menstrual suppression and cancer screening in women.
The Role of the Editor in Chief
The editor in chief is responsible for editorial decision-making on papers submitted to the journal. The editor in chief is also responsible for editorial matters that include but are not limited to journal supplements, the journal's aims and scope, the editorial board and volunteer peer reviewer pool, editorial assessment of video abstracts, assignment to published papers of endorsements, and for consulting on pre-submission inquiries from authors.
